About Our Founder
The LED lighting market has expanded dramatically in recent years, with countless manufacturers offering subpar or overpriced products. GLE LED is positioned to navigate this complicated, oversaturated market to locate the best products in a way that few other American distributors can match. Dr. Zhang has partnered with a former colleague running a large electronic components exporting company in Shenzhen, China. Through this partnership, GLE has gained access to a dynamic sourcing network in the region. We utilize their resources for product evaluation, quality control testing, warehousing, and logistics support in China, overseen by frequent visits by the GLE technical staff. When the product arrives in Michigan, GLE personnel perform another wave of quality testing, ensuring we only offer the best products.

GLE LED is a division of Great Lakes Electric, LLC, a company based in St. Joseph, Michigan and dedicated to the application and adoption of renewable energy and energy efficiency technology. The LED division launched in 2015 with the goal of supplying top quality commercial LED lighting products to Southwest Michigan and Northern Indiana. We regularly sell lighting solutions to electrical professionals, general contractors, property managers, educational facilities, municipal institutions, and a wide array of commercial and retail entities.
John Zhang created Great Lakes Electric in 2008, initially focusing on design and integration consultation for advanced variable speed motor control systems. He received a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino (Turin, Italy). He then spent 12 years working for Whirlpool Corporation and developed into one of the international appliance manufacturer’s most valuable technical minds. Dr. Zhang has been a Fellow of IEEE, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, since 2008. He now spends his decades of expertise in electrical appliances and industrial drive and control applications evaluating quality LED lighting products for his clients in Michiana.
